Quit Smoking Questions And Answers

How can my dad and I help my mom quit smoking?

Question by αмєяιρσѕтαℓ: How can my dad and I help my mom quit smoking?
My dad quit smoking when I was 4. He just… stopped. My mom still smokes. My aunts and my cousin have all stopped recently. My grandma asks me every time I see her “When are you going to get her to quit smoking?”

I’ve tried to tell her about lung cancer, tar, etc… but she won’t listen to it. She says that she knows about all of that. I just don’t know what to do anymore. Neither does my dad. Help? I don’t want to lose her at a young age…

You can get her help, take her cigarettes, or simply talk to her, but nothing is going to matter until she wants to help herself. She has control of her own actions and you can’t make her stop if she doesn’t want to. I don’t know what you could tell her. Perhaps try to make her feel bad by telling her that you don’t want to lose her because of smoking – it sounds like the consequences of smoking have no effect on her. If it comes to it, tell her that you’re giving up. Tell her that you’ve tried and tried, but she won’t listen, so you are giving up. Say that you want to help her but she won’t let you. Tell her that she needs to want to help herself.
